Common Horse Behavior Problems This Course Helps Solve

  • Your horse bites or threatened when handled.  If you are in close to your horse for haltering, saddling, bridling or even grooming biting is a problem.  Not only can biting injure but also you may begin to avoid necessary interactions.
  • Your horse crowds or pulls you when leading.  Horse owners get out of position easily when a horse's behavior escalates.  You may get stepped on, crushed, knocked down when it crowds in on your space.  Some horses use rearing as escape and it is dangerous when the front feet are up high, putting you at risk of a serious injury.  The horse may even hook the lead and pull it from your hand, and you lose control completely.
  • Your horse refuses the bridle or saddle.  Many horses have experienced unpleasant bridling and saddling procedures and become anxious, especially on cross-ties where evasion is easy by moving their feet.  Poor bridling makes horses resistant but you are usually at risk of losing control while bridling if it is not cooperative with the horse.
  • Horse won’t stand still for mounting.  When your horse learns to give you "permission" to mount, it will stand stationary until you give the cue to move.  Many horses have been held tight while a rider mounts, some are not taught to relax for the mounted rider, some are anticipating a traumatic training session ... and more.  You can learn to help your horse become confident and stationary while being mounted.
  •  Horse reacts with high energy or spooking. – Certain horses are more "hot" or "high-strung" but that doesn't mean that they are comfortable in their own skin when behaving this way.  Every horse desires a calm, relaxed state and you can learn how to help your horse find their calmness as a priority choice in their behaviors.  Reactivity and high energy will be reduced with consistent practice and you will be aware of how to minimize each episode.
